1. Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please?
Dr. McLeod hit the nail on the head with this one. How will children flourish in the school, work, even future without learning the technology that available? Sure, there are dangers in it but, it is everywhere. If parents and teachers monitor the children, there should be no concern. Let them be creative and explore. Porn and sexting are bad but so is drugs and alcohol. If we teach the children the safe way to do things, some of these things can be avoided. Sometimes I think we should put a little more faith in our kids. Technology is not bad; it is the people who make it that way. Scott McLeod, J.D., Ph.D., is a educator. He primary focus is to ensure the school system is ready for what  is starting to happen in the technology world.2. The iSchool Initiative (5:42)
I like the video. It is true of the technology we have and what is to come. I think students will be likely to study through ischool than with books. Students are so into to the technology world, it would only make thinks better. Parents would enjoy the access to email and getting in touch with teachers at their fingertips. As a parent, I would love to touch a screen to find out about attendance and events. It is always a plus to save money and our economy. If you compare buying textbooks to downloading them, I choose to download. At least the students would be less likely to loose it. All the paper and ink that is saved would be an extra bonus.
3. Watch The Lost Generation. (1:44)
I do not think any generation is lost. It is what the people of the generation make it. The video is awesome and so true. All things said can be reversed. People should not settle for what others think of the future. I hope we never have an era that feels that work is more important than children are. Kudos to the maker of this video. It was well done and an eye opener.
4. Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir (6:20)
I am without a doubt amazed now. There is so much technology out there and the uses are endless. This is amazing.

  1. Hi Robin, your blog is very bold! in a colorful way! I agree that we should not let the negative aspects of technology prevent us from embracing technology in the classroom. We do have to be careful though. I know of a PE teacher who was fired because he misprinted the name of a website he directed his kids towards. Big mistake, and only off the intended website by a couple of characters! I believe that if we as teachers are familiar and comfortable with the technology, then we should embrace it.

The iSchool initiative is a great idea. I'd be willing to use it from day one. Contact with the students during and after school could really create new avenues for communication and discussion among the class and the platform would certainly get them excited. Your comments regarding The Lost Generation are very true. I believe that we will be part of a great generation that values service over self. The choir video was neat because it proves that distance learning can be effective with the right technology.
