My PLN

I love my PLN and I so excited about using it. It is like having all your favorites on one page. It is very easily accessed. I will continue to tweak and work with my PLN until it is exactly how I want it. This is definitely one of my favorite things I have learned in my EDM310 class.

#8 My comment was to Friendship, who is a local student at Alba Middle School. His blog was a picture of the USS Battleship and we were ask to think of a name. I said Freedom.
#9. My comment was to Rosmery. Her blog was quit interesting. It was typed in Spanish. I google translated it. I found out her blog was about someone who got bit by a snake and had to go to the hospital.
#10 I was assigned to Mrs. Melito's class and I read Chelsea's blog. They were asked to blog about how they prepared for a scientific notation test and to tell what they are thankful for.She was thankful for her family, friends, and teachers who love and support her.
#11 My student was Logan. He is in Mrs. Huebner's 2nd grade class. He wrote a short story on Mario and his side kick, Luigi. He included himself in his story. It was very interesting. I think he is a talented boy with lots of potential. When I was younger, I loved playing the Mario game.

ADDITIONAL ASSIGNMENT #5

pencils
Sometimes you have to allow students or people in general to get a little confused to get the point. When things are all laid out on the line and then explained, I think it gives the students different aspects to the way they learn. I believe if confusion leads to clarity: then in the end it is worth it.
Mr. Spencer relates pencils with his students. Children are full of emotion and they change day by day. At one moment, they could be happy without a care in the world and within seconds, they can be mad at the world. Pencils can be broken, reshape, sketchy. My favorite quote by Mr. Spencer is, "It's change, constant change, sometimes in smooth lines and sometimes in wild, dark jagged edges." He respects his students. He sounds like an awesome teacher. If all teachers cared like he does, maybe there would not be so much rebellion with children. He Just Likes the Class for the Pencils is my favorite blog by Mr. Spencer and the one I commented on. I hope I can be a teacher like Mr. Spencer. Being a teacher is not about trying to embarrass the students. I do not want to be the type of teacher who does not know or care to know her students. I think so many times teachers either loose sight or just do not care that students are human beings with feelings too. It breaks my heart to see a child hurt or sad. I substitute at a school and I see how some teachers treat the students. In order to receive respect we must give it.

Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX), one stop website of lesson plans and other educational resources for teachers, students, and administrators in Alabama.Their goal is for Alabama students to utilize the benefits of Alabama educators sharing their wealth of expertise and knowledge with colleagues. The material on Alex is searchable and listed by subject and grade level. The courses of study are Science, Social Studies, Foreign Languages, Physical Education, Technology Education, English, Math, Arts, Health Education, and more. Once you click on a particular subject, it will give you the state standards and lessons plans. There are many different web links to search through. They are useful for students and teachers. The student web resources allow students to ask questions, play games, and learn about different subjects. The web links include personal workspace, personal learning, lesson plans, search, pod cast treasury, alexville. I would recommend everyone to check out ALEX. It is interesting and has some very resourceful information for everyone. I have had the opportunity to use ALEX in some of my education classes at University of South Alabama. I found it helpful, especially with ideas about different types of lesson plans. I know several teachers who use ALEX for resources and they without a doubt would swear by it. I have already printed out some of the Alabama standards. My suggestion is for everyone wanting to be a future teacher to print out these standards and keep them nearby.

Students Statewide (ACCESS), a distance-learning program that provides credit recovery courses. ACCESS uses both interactive videoconferencing and web-based online course formats. These courses are taken during the school day at the student's school. They have trained facilitators supervise students and collaborate with the distance teacher. The Vision of ACCESS: The State of Alabama will provide equal access to high quality instruction to improve student achievement through distance learning. The resources include things like Alabama Virtual Library, ChemLab, HippoCampus, and many others. I personally have not had much experience with this website. After researching through it some, I know it is something I would like to be involved with. My daughter actually uses this at her school. She takes a class through ACCESS, her teacher is the facilitator, and she has an online teacher. This is the first year she has done this. She said at first it was complicated but it has gotten easier. Students can enroll in ACCESS if they attend an Alabama public high school (grade 9-12) or they are identified as a special education student. The question and answers page was informational for me. Progress Report on Final Project

We have not really decided what we are going to do yet. We have been brainstorming with a couple of things. I can not wait to get started. The things we are thinking about are going to be awesome. I am really excited about seeing the end project. I know it is going to be a lot of hard work but in the end we will have something to be proud of.

Project #6 Analysis

I did my survey on texting and driving. The answers I got were shocking in some cases.
Out of everyone that took my survey, nobody has ever had an accident while texting or while talking and driving. That is great, it just surprised me. 53% of the students think it should be illegal to text while driving. If it was illegal to text while driving, 76% of students think the punishment should be a ticket.
This is some interesting facts. I learned that although most people 29%text and drive more than 10 times per day, 82% of students feel unsafe while riding with someone who is texting and driving. Ironic? I think so. I guess people feel safer if they are the ones driving and texting.
I learned a lot of information creating my survey and getting the analysis for the responses. This is definitely something I will continue to do in the future. I would always like to teach my own children how to utilize surveys. Maybe they can use it for projects and such with their own school work.

My #3 teacher was David Warlick. He spoke about students receiving a comic book education in an encyclopedia world. He spoke about education is about the information being taught. I think the way technology is booming and will continue to do so, it is hard to teach without mentioning these things. There will come a time in the near future that students will have to be technology literate before they graduate. The world around us is changing and therefore; teachers must adapt to the change.

Ms. Cassidy is doing a wonderful job with her students. It is amazing the things they can do. I would like to at least try to utilize everything Ms. Cassidy uses. It is nothing short of amazing watching these children learn. The students look like they are having so much fun and they are learning in the process. I realize that using all this new technology could be challenging. The students will have to be taught how to properly use everything. There will be some that are already familar with skype and other programs but some children will not have a clue what I am talking about. I am excited about bring my new knowledge not only in my classroom but in my school.

Comment #3 http://pesburne.blogspot.com/ This is a year 2 and 3 class at Pt England School in Auckland, New Zealand. The class did artwork the showing a waka on the sea. The black paper really made the colors stand out.

I commented to Bianca and Claire. They are in 7th grade. Their school is located about half an hour from Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania. After watching the movie Cars, they had to do a blog realting the movie to friendship. They both did a great job.

Comment #5 I commented to Grace, she is in 7th grade. She did a blog on how to conserve water. I believe many times we take things like water for granted. She blogged about how it is not fair for people in other countries to be without fresh, clean water. It was a great blog.

Comment #6 was to Khalid. He is Mr. Goerend's class. His blog was about a bigmac, that came to life. He has an extraordinary imagination. I will defiantely keep up with his blog to see where this story leads. http://kidblog.org/2017Purple/khalidc/big-mac-continued/#comment-1075

#7 Lessons Learned Mr. McClung's class blog is great. He is an 8th grade teacher at Woodland Jr. High located in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He teaches social studies, Arkansas History, computer applications, and coaches cross country. I commented on his Beat Ramay Week blog. During Beat Ramay week, two community rival teams get ready to face off with each other. They whole town is devided. The students get to dress up and show sprit for their school. I believe this type of thing shows the students that they can learn and still have fun.

In the school systems, that I have been involved in, there is very little time to allow the students to be creative. It seems to me that they are always preparing for their next unit test. Personally, the most important part of this video is the part about waking the students up not putting them to sleep. I think students are often board in class and the teacher/parents want to blame it on ADHD. I agree with Sir Ken the students seem to be medicated when there is no need for it. I have never been a fan of all these types of medications, but this is just my opinion. Classrooms in today’s society are competing with video games, internet, ipods, etc. I can understand how students may go to some classes and feel board out of their minds. I am taking my first classes at the College of Education this semester. In my EDM310, we are learning how to spark interest in our students. The more we learn, the more we can teach the students and other teachers. The classes I am currently taking are interesting and keep me thinking in the UCOM building at least. When I am a teacher, I will do what I can to make sure the students are challenged to utilize their inner creativity. I do not think students will be group any differently other than grade in the near future. Although I agree, they should be and I hope at some point this will change. If I were to create a video like this, I would like to be the narrator.

Blog Post #10

http://morgbayda.wordpress.com/2010/02/24/an-open-letter-to-educators/Many times, I felt like Morgan Bayda. It is frustrating to know I am paying for a class in which the professor has no clue as to who I am. There are times that I talk to my classmates about our class work.  We sometimes form study groups. This helps me more Than sitting through the class. Do not get me wrong, not all my classes are like this, only some. There is one particular class I sit in day after day (fighting to keep my eyes open). I know that I am getting nothing out of what he is teaching. As I am sitting in this class, I am thinking to myself, "If I could only get the study I will be fine." It puts me in a difficult situation because I like my professor, just not the method in which he chooses to teach. It does give me a lot of insight on the type of teacher I do not want to be. I want to make learning fun and creative for my students. I could compare the class I am talking about to this EDM310 class. In our EDM310, we are encouraged to talk to other students, teachers, Dr. Strange, or others. I am learning a great deal in my EDM310 class and I enjoy getting to read and communicate with my fellow classmates. Like Morgan said, I do get frustrated with prices and different things but I would not have quit school. Yes, school is stressful and overwhelming but I know in the end it will be all worth it.

Two Questions That Can Change Your Life
This is great. It made me stop and think. I do strive to make each day better than the last. I want to better myself not only for me but also for my family and my future students. I think in order for me to be the best at what I am going to do (which is teach), I have to start with my own children at home. They are my motivation. When things get a little crazy, I stop and try to see the world through my children’s’ eyes.  My sentence is:
In order to teach from my heart, I have to start at home because that is where my heart begins.

Blog Post #9

Mr. McClung has some very interesting points. They are a lot of things I have thought about. He has over 280 comments on his essay. I do not expect that he knew he would get such a outpouring of comments. Most of the people that left comments seemed to enjoy his essay. Students said things like, “I truly enjoyed your thoughts on being a teacher.” There were many others that had the same positive comment to make. I am thankful I was assigned this because so many things you said hit home to me. The other day I overheard my grandmother explaining to her friend how smart I was. The reason she thinks this is quite funny. It is because I use mapquest to find directions to places I am unfamiliar. I understand this is because my grandmother is so unfamiliar with technology because we all know that mapquest is not a big deal. I am glad she thinks I am smart. It is so important for people to communicate. Mr. McClung made a great point when he spoke about communication. I think teachers have to talk to their co-workers, students, and their parents.

Blog Post #8

Richard Miller: This Is How We Dream Parts 1 and 2
I think that as future teachers, we will be able to write with multimedia. That’s what we are doing: learning, studying, experimenting so that we are able to teach our students. The more we know, the easier it will be for us to teach. Let’s face it; children are much easier to teach than adults are. This video was very educational and made me think a lot. As the world around us transforms from paper/pen to laptops/technology, I think the future teachers will be ready. I do worry about the people who are already teachers. Will they go back and take classes to enable themselves to teach the students about technology?
The internet has unlimited resources. It is not necessary to go to a library when you have everything readily available. One thing that Mr. Miller said that really got my attention was things on the internet are there indefinitely. Yes, I remember Dr. strange always telling us we are leaving a intellectual trail. I guess it just finally sunk in when I was watching this video.
Rather some people like it or not, technology is here. If our children and we ourselves want to succeed, we must get educated to do so. If my kindergartener does not learn how to use multimedia, by the time she graduates, she will be behind. I believe in the near future, school will no longer use textbooks but computers. The students will be carrying around laptops instead of books.

The Chipper Series and EDM310 for Dummies are both great videos. Jamie Lynn and everyone involved hit on what a lot of us feel at times. Edm310 can get overwhelming at times. I love the fact that I have learned so much in this class though. I know it will be well worth it in the end. If I were going to create a video on my EDM310 class, I would what the outcome is like at the end of the semester. All of us will be well educated and yes, it is crazy and makes us feel like pulling our hair out. When it is all said and done, we will be thankful to Dr. strange and his staff for pushing us past our comfort zone. We are the future educators and therefore, we are the ones who are responsible for teacher our students technology. I have learned so many helpful tools. When we finally get a classroom of our own, we will probably be the ones teaching the other teachers as well as students what we have learned.

Critiques of Smartboards
The smart board has 4 colored markers to use and erasers. Your work can be saved on it. I think it is exciting for students to play the educational games. I am sure it is hard to write neatly with smart boards. Some teachers may find smart boards challenging because they do not fully understand how to use it. They are expensive but I think they are worth the cost. That is just my personal opinion. When I was searching different things about Smartboards, I came across this:
http://smartboards.typepad.com/smartboard/#
Another blog I found is by Kelli Boklaschuk. She is an Instructional Team Leader at Saskatoon Catholic Cyber School. Check out what she has to say about Smartboards.

Additional Assignment #2|

Sugata Mitra: The child-driven education Video on TED.com
I believe people can teach themselves. Without a doubt, motivated thinkers of all ages can teach themselves. One day I gave my 3-year-old Nintendo ds to play with, within a couple of hours, she knew how to play a game. They have to want to learn. Basically, if people want to know how something works; they will be eager to learn. Computers can play a big role in the education process. I do not think students cannot learn without a computer. Most access play (rather good or bad) is teaching our children something. Children are exposed to more resources when they use the internet. Motivation has everything to do with learning. People in general are very curious about different things. When I was in school, my teacher always told us to look things up in the dictionary. My favorite phrase to tell my own children is “google it.” Even if I know the answer to what they are asking, I think it will stay with them if they take the time and effort to search for it. Solving problems forces the students to search and try to find the answer. They can talk with their classmates and work together. When this is done, students are more likely to remember what they have gone over. I believe learning should be fun and creative. It is hard for me to get motivated if I am not interested in the material. I have some classes that do not bring out my thought process at all but I have to make myself remember it. Since I am not motivated in those classes, I do not think I learn the material. I think at that point, I just memorize it enough to pass the test. When my teachers are excited to teach, I get excited too. In my mind, I am thinking, “Wow this must be something worth learning.” I have taught myself different things before. I have in the past taken online classes, and the teacher did not provide much help or information. I just took things into my own hands and did what I had to do. After watching the video, I realize that children will learn if they are curious enough. Children want to learn. It is a teacher’s responsibility to plant a seed for students. In cases where there are no teachers, children can teach themselves. They may not know they are doing this, like head fakes. Children may be just curious and this curiosity leads to learning.

Blog Post #7

“Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” by Randy Pausch. This video is very inspirational. Randy Pausch was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and only had a few months to live. He did not pity himself; he made the best of the time he had left. I was touched beyond measure while watching this video. He lived his life like there was no tomorrow. We all could take a few notes from him.
One of the teaching techniques Mr. Pausch used was head fake" (a term from the football he played as a kid). Head fakes are where you make a person think they are learning one thing but really, they are learning something else. The name of this particular project was “Alice.” In this case, you seem to be having fun but you are really doing something difficult. The students thought they were making movies and games but, in reality they were learning how to program.
His methods of teaching really got everyone’s attention. There are head fakes everyone. We just never thought about it. Now that I have heard of it, I will be looking for them everywhere. It is an exceptional idea. Now that I think about it, I have used that technique with my own children. It is like using a game to teach them their ABC’s. They think they are just playing a fun game but in reality, they are learning.
Randy Pausch set childhood goals for himself. Some of his goals did not do exactly as planned but in the end, all his dreams came true. This last lecture was not meant for an audience. It was made for Randy Pausch’s children, so when they got older they could watch who their dad truly was. He was a legacy. When I first read that I had to watch an hour-long video, I will be the first to admit; I grumbled. After watching, I will recommend others to watch it. He is not only an inspiration to me but someone I am glad I got the opportunity to read about.

Summary Post Teacher #2

My teacher was Kathy Cassidy. The first blog I read was Room Two and the Forty Designs.
It was very interesting. She talked about making her classroom into a more comfortable setting. If the students are comfortable with their setting, they will be more comfortable learning. She likes to re-do (redesign) her classroom at the beginning of every year. She calls it a fresh start. When designing her knew classroom, Ms. Cassidy keeps in mind what would help the learning process. She has some great ideas and points. Check them out:

Blog Post #6

The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler:
Without teachers, how would students learn to properly use technology. There has to be someone to teach them how to search and find articles and other education information. Blogs can be opinion but, they can also be very factual. Opinions can be great learning tools also. It is wonderful that we can search so many things at one time. It is like having the world at our fingertips. Students do not realize how lucky they are. When I was in high school, technology was not as advanced as it is now. If we had to do a research paper, we had to go to the libraries, get magazines, books, newspaers, etc. Today's students can access all online. I think it is important that they are taught the proper way to do this. I am an adult and before taking this class I knew a little about how to look things up via internet. Now, I am learning so much more. It is nice that i can get what i need without leaving my home. I may not be 100% ready to teach what I am learning now but, I am getting there.

A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment (or PLN)I think that basically there are a lot of similarities. We both have educational websites on our page. We have some personal pages. It is great to have a PLN. I have all my sites right there on one page.
The Machine is Changing UsTechnology has come so far in the past years. It is progressing so fast. I wonder what it will be like in 10 to 15 years. I think it will be astounding. I am excited to see just how far it has come. I mean 10 to 15 years ago, I personally would not have guessed we would be where we are today. Possibilities are unlimited. We have access  to places all over the world. When I watched this video, I realized just how many people visit Youtube on a daily basis.

The student I was assigned to was Anahi. She is 13 years old and in eighth grade. She sounds amazing. She stated, "I believe on myself that I can do all of that." She said she would show that she can be a better person and learn. She has great goals for her life and seems to be a very positive person. I am glad a got a chance to read her blogs. Anahi reminds me a lot of my daughters. If she follows the goals she set in her manifesto, it will pay off for her

The Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom by Joe Dale
This video helped me to understand pod casting a lot. I would love to use this to challenge creativity. I think students should be allowed to be creative. As they are learning and experimenting, they realize it is fun. Students who miss school, would now have access to there work via pod cast. I like this video and it was very helpful.
Judy Scharf Podcast Collection
This is very organized. It is easy to work through. Podcasting does not seem too complicated when I reviewed this page. Judy Scharf has everything readily available. I recommend anyone who is having trouble with pod cast, to check this out. I will defiantly keep this site handy for future references.
100 Ways to Use Your iPod to Learn and Study Better
I will be the first to admit, I had no clue an ipod could be used so many different ways. I will share this information with my daughter. She has an ipod but only uses it to listen to music. She is going to love this. There are so many helpful downloads. It also seems to have countless learning abilities. I think I am going to print this list out. This way I will have it handy when I need it.

Blog Post 4

1. Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please?
Dr. McLeod hit the nail on the head with this one. How will children flourish in the school, work, even future without learning the technology that available? Sure, there are dangers in it but, it is everywhere. If parents and teachers monitor the children, there should be no concern. Let them be creative and explore. Porn and sexting are bad but so is drugs and alcohol. If we teach the children the safe way to do things, some of these things can be avoided. Sometimes I think we should put a little more faith in our kids. Technology is not bad; it is the people who make it that way. Scott McLeod, J.D., Ph.D., is a educator. He primary focus is to ensure the school system is ready for what  is starting to happen in the technology world.2. The iSchool Initiative (5:42)
I like the video. It is true of the technology we have and what is to come. I think students will be likely to study through ischool than with books. Students are so into to the technology world, it would only make thinks better. Parents would enjoy the access to email and getting in touch with teachers at their fingertips. As a parent, I would love to touch a screen to find out about attendance and events. It is always a plus to save money and our economy. If you compare buying textbooks to downloading them, I choose to download. At least the students would be less likely to loose it. All the paper and ink that is saved would be an extra bonus.
3. Watch The Lost Generation. (1:44)
I do not think any generation is lost. It is what the people of the generation make it. The video is awesome and so true. All things said can be reversed. People should not settle for what others think of the future. I hope we never have an era that feels that work is more important than children are. Kudos to the maker of this video. It was well done and an eye opener.
4. Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir (6:20)
I am without a doubt amazed now. There is so much technology out there and the uses are endless. This is amazing.

Additional Assignment #1

Until this assignment, I have never heard of either Google Squared or Wolfram Alpha. I enjoyed working on both. In fact, I am looking forward to showing my children how to use them. Google Squared allows people to square anything. It also lets people add or delete whatever they wish. Google Squared is easier to read and would be a great way for any age person to look up things. Wolfram Alpha seems a little too advanced for younger children, but ideal for high school age children. I think either one would be wonderful for fun or educational purposes. My opinion of the Did You Know assignment has not altered. I understand more about compared different things for statistics. If I compared my hometown (Fruitdale, AL.) with Mobile, AL. of course it would be a big difference. The schools, population, stores, etc. are all different.
Food for thought: Never underestimate the brain of a child, or the "magic" in technology.

Blog Post 3

1. Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today (4:45)
When I first started college, all the students overwhelmed me. Of course, I have been out of school for many years. I am presently taking at class that has over 100 students. I know I have teachers who do not know my name. I feel like I am not as educated as some of the younger students, as far as technology. I am working on that and I enjoy learning about all the different things that is out there. I would like to say that I cannot remember a time that I got 7 hours of sleep. As for myself, I use my time studying when I am not in class. I know several students who goof off on their laptops during class, and one day I think they will regret it.

2. "It's Not About the Technology" by Kelly Hines
I can relate to what Ms. Hines is saying. When teachers are learning, they are more equipped to teach the students. Technology is a fast growing thing in today’s society. I know of schools that have computers, and all the students are focused on is how they can get on facebook, etc. I think it is great for the students learn how computers and different tools work. Some teachers use the tools as “babysitters”. In this case, the students usually end up teaching themselves. Technology may be evolving, but the way we teach about technology is nothing new. When we teach about planets, math, or anything else, it is still the same principal.

3. Karl Fisch: Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
I realize that teachers have a lot on their plate. Being a teacher is like being a parent, even when you’re off work you still have things to do. In my opinion, it is a teacher’s responsibility to make sure they know what to teach students. I agree with Mr. Fisch. How will we be able to teach students in ten years, if we have no clue what we are teaching. Rather teachers like it or not technology is here and it is progresses fast. It is just one of those things that we have to do. I do not think that everyone has a problem with learning all the high tech things we have today. As our world changes we (teachers, students, people) must change with it.

Amazing! Although I know these things are happening, I never really thought about putting numbers to it. As a future teacher, I want to be prepared to teach my students about all the new technology. Most children probably will know how to use these before the adults. It is exciting to be a part of such an astonishing change in our world. The social count is great and really helps put things into perspective.

C4T SUMMARY POST TEACHER #1

My first comment was on a post called Dream (Tweet) Team by Mr. Jabiz Raisdana.
http://www.jabizraisdana.com/blog/2010/08/dream-tweet-team/#comments
He made some very great points about teachers who tweet or blog. Should this be the start of a new decade. Progressively so. He questions rather or not tweeting teachers has any correlations with a school’s success. Tweeting for educational purposes are great. It keeps schools, teachers, and students connected. I have a few of my teachers as friends on face book. It is useful for them to let me know if there is a change in things. I think this is a wonderful idea as a parent and a future teacher.
My second comment was on a post called School Should Not Be Considered Work.
http://www.jabizraisdana.com/blog/2010/08/school-should-not-be-considered-work/#comments
It is a always great to have an open relationship with teachers. This way a student can ask questions and feel comfortable doing so. Learning should be fun. Students should be open to be creative. I think it is a little old fashion to be trapped in a classroom without letting your creativity flow.

Blog Assignment 2

1. Did You Know 3.0 by Karl Fisch

All I can say is Wow. These are astonishing facts! They are also a bit scary. Does this mean that with       time, technology will rule our World? Will humans no longer need to think for themselves? I am amazed a the numbers of people we can reach through computers, etc. I am also thankful for the technology we have in     today's society but when is enough really enough? We can learn so much and we are now capable of having  the World in our hands.
At some point we will have to think for ourselves. If we totally rely on the computer, ipod, texts, etc. We will never challenge our own minds. I watch my teenagers text and always wonder, how this will affect their speaking skills. It's like they can text a person all day but, if they were in the same room with them they would be at a lose of words. I understand why we need technology to help us but, there has to be some sort of balance.
2. Mr. Winkle Wakes by Mathew Needleman
I see how the World changed after 100 years for Mr. Winkle. On the other hand I think he would see more new things in the school. Schools are not the same as they were 100 years. They are not the same as they were when I was in school (many years ago). The video is an eye opener as far as how much we depend on technology. I think many times we take these things for granted. Our hospitals, for instance are almost entirely computerized. This helps save a lot of lives, where as years ago many lives were lost.
I am sure if we went to sleep now and woke up in 100 years, we would be beside our selves. The way our World and technology are growing, our whole outlook will be changed in 5 to 10 years. It's great to have technology in our schools. If the children do not learn through technology, they will not be able to survive in this World.
3. Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity
Sir Ken Robinson has some very interesting points. Since all children are different, they will all learn different. It does seem that sometimes children are limited to the ways they can learn. In some schools, teachers do not want to allow creativity. How can we teach a student to explore if we limit their abilities? Children do not want to be bored in class that will not spark an interest. They should be able to explore the possibilities.

When my children come home with homework, I always allow them to have fun learning. One of my daughters always has to have music on to concentrate. Yes, I know to some it sounds ridiculous. To me, I understand because I am the same way. I cannot study in quietness. Maybe it has something to do with having a big family. I do not know. Children should be encouraged to sing, dance, paint, and take things apart, whatever it takes. Who knows you just may be teaching the next Picasso. It is not fair to limit a child with learning. The only way some children may catch on is by their on style of learning and then others by learn from watching them.
4.Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
I love this video. Vicki Davis has awesome teaching/learning skills. I believe what she is doing is imperative to students today. The students seem to enjoy it and they are learning as they have fun. Isn't that what it's all about. Like I said before our children have to be able to understand and use technology in the World today.
I am glad she is getting this program out there and maybe it will reach other places as well. Students need this. I love to see children involved and having fun. As a mother of teenagers, I assure you they would have a blast in this class room.

Robin Garland's EDM 310 Class Blog

My name is Robin Garland. I grew up in Waynesboro, MS. After graduating from Wayne County High, I immediately got married and started a family. I live in Fruitdale, Al with my husband and five daughters. I stay busy with my school and keeping up with my daughters. My favorite thing to do is watch my girls cheer, play volleyball and softball. I absolutely love the beach, it relaxes me. Taking pictures is another hobby of mine, although I do not have much time to do this.
I attended Bishop State Community College for 2 years and transferred to University of South Alabama this semester. I am majoring in Elementary Education because I love working and helping children. When I first decided to go back to school, I wanted to be a nurse. While going to school, I started to substitute teach at my children's school. It was at that point I realized what my true calling was. I am excited about learning and my future.
